History of Decatur - The Decatur area has a rich history dating from 1823 and is the second oldest municipality in metro Atlanta. While Decatur is now home to 18,000 residents and has a daytime population of over 24,000, preserving a high quality of life and sense of community has been a common theme since its inception. That spirit is alive and well today and one of the forces that makes Decatur such an extraordinary place to live.
